The Fort Hays State women's soccer team kicks off its MIAA schedule with two home matches this weekend. The Tigers start MIAA play against 2011 MIAA champion No. 8 Central Missouri on Friday at 6 p.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. In a Sunday matchup, the Tigers welcome Southwest Baptist to the FHSU Soccer Stadium for an 11 a.m. tilt.

The Tigers are on a three-game winning streak and are 3-1 on the season. FHSU's defense has been stellar, allowing only one goal all season, which was an own goal. The Tigers have a 293:07 minute shutout streak dating back to the end of game one. Two goalkeepers have started for the Tigers during the streak: Nicole Barnaba and Rachael Schaad. Barnaba has a 2-0 record with two shutouts and a 0.00 goals against average and 1.000 save percentage with 11 saves. Schaad is 1-1 with one shutout and one goal allowed on the own goal. She has a 0.50 goals against average and .833 save percentage with five saves.

After a slow start, the Tiger offense has picked up, scoring eight goals in the last two games. Three freshmen, Alexis Aiman, Jordan Hester and Kylie Watson, lead the Tigers with two goals. Cindy Benitez, Sade Humphrey and Margaret Meier have one goal this season. Bethany Keefer leads the team with two assists.

The No. 8-ranked Jennies are 3-0-1 this season with wins over Winona State, Minnesota State University-Mankato and University of Mary. UCM tied in its latest match against Minot State, 0-0. The Jennies offense is led by Becky Lackey, a junior midfielder, who has three goals this season.

This is the second meeting ever between the two programs. In 2011, the Jennies scored a goal with less than 2 minutes remaining to win 2-1. Lackey scored the game winner.

SBU is 3-2 on the season with wins over Concordia University-St. Paul, University of Mary and Southern Nazarene. The Bearcats fell to Upper Iowa and Minot State. Karla Jamison currently leads the Bearcat attack with two goals. Five other Bearcats have scored one goal. Ashley Creason has a team-high three assists. In goal, Megan Link has started all five matches, allowing four goals and making 22 saves.

The Bearcats are 1-0 all-time against FHSU, winning last season, 3-1, in Hays. A strong wind and own goal aided SBU as all three of its goals came with the wind at its back.

After this weekend, the Tigers travel to Missouri Southern on Friday (Sept. 21) for a 4 p.m. showdown with the Lions.
