After dropping a tight first set 25-23, the Tiger volleyball team rallied to win three straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-17, and 25-22 to capture their first MIAA win of the season at Central Oklahoma. FHSU went on a 6-1 run at the end of the fourth set to put the Bronchos away, improving to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA.
The Tigers and Bronchos were locked in a tight first set early until the Bronchos went on a run to build a comfortible lead in the middle of the set. The Tigers rallied late to make it interesting, but a blocking error called on the Tigers gave the Bronchos the first set 25-23.
Fort Hays State held a comfortible lead in the second set for a while, until UCO rallied late to make the Tigers earn it in the end. FHSU held on 26-24 to knot the match at 1-1.
The Tigers took advantage of sloppy play by the Bronchos in the third set to pull away and win 25-17, a set that saw them lead by as many as nine points. FHSU held a lead for the majority of the fourth set as well until Central Oklahoma rallied past the Tigers to a 21-19 lead. However, the Tigers fought to go on a 6-1 run to end the fourth set and the match with a 25-22 win.
Kylee Hoagland led the Tigers in kills with 17, hitting .609 for the evening with just three errors on 23 attempts.
Taylor Mares also had an efficient night, putting down 11 kills with just three errors on 20 attempts, hitting .400 for the match.
Jenna Ulrich and
Sara Hewson each kicked in nine kills.
Kayla Zoglman had a double-double of 49 assists and 11 digs.
Makenzie Weinman led the Tigers in digs with 20.
Morgan Roy led Central Oklahoma with 19 kills, followed by Barbara Jackson with 12. Faith Harmon tallied 46 assists and Tate Hardaker had a match-high 30 digs.
Fort Hays State has a quick turnaround and plays at Pittsburg State on Saturday at 2 pm.
