After playing four-straight MIAA matches, the Tiger volleyball team steps out of conference play for the Wildcat Invitational this Friday (Sept. 21) and Saturday (Sept. 22)., hosted by Johnson & Wales in Denver. On Friday, FHSU plays Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) at 10 a.m. then takes on Bethany College (Kan.) at 4 p.m. The Tigers Saturday schedule starts with Southwestern College (Kan.) at 9 a.m. then ends with host Johnson & Wales at 2 p.m.
The Tigers, currently 8-5, went 2-2 during the start of MIAA play, defeating Central Oklahoma (3-1) and Pittsburg State. Most recently, FHSU dropped a four set match to Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
The tournament this weekend is the Tigers third tournament this season. The Tigers had great success in the OPSU Tournament, going 4-0, and went 2-3 at the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic the next weekend.
FHSU dropped a close four set match to Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday (Sept. 19). After losing the first two sets (25-20, 25-22), the Tigers battled back to win set three, 25-22, but in set four with the score tied at 23-23, FHSU lost the final two points for the final 25-23 set loss.
Jenna Ulrich and
Sara Hewson led the Tigers with 11 kills and Ulrich also had a team-high seven blocks.
Kayla Zoglman finished with 29 assists, and
Makenzie Weinman led the Tigers with 16 kills.
After this weekend, the Tigers return to MIAA play with two home matches. On Friday (Sept. 28), FHSU takes on Washburn at 6 p.m. then on Saturday (Sept. 29), the Tigers play Emporia State at 3 p.m.
