Box Score 2 The Fort Hays State volleyball team played two matches on Friday at the Johnson & Wales Tournament in Denver, Colo. In their first match of the day, the Tigers defeated Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) and then later in the day defeated Bethany (Kan.) College 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16). The wins put FHSU at 10-5 overall.

The Tigers let their presence be known early, putting down 17 kills in the opening set with a .481 hitting percentage. They struggled a bit offensively in the second set, hitting just .100 with nine kills and six errors, but the offense got back on track in the third with 16 kills and a .323 hitting percentage.
Madison Schwartz stayed error-free to lead the Tigers with 10 kills on 12 attempts for an .833 hitting percentage.
Kylee Hoagland and
Taylor Mares each added six kills, while
Jenna Ulrich and
Samantha Ledy each had five.
Kayla Zoglman and
Lauren Lorenz split the setting duties. Zoglman had 20 assists and Lorenz added 12.
Makenzie Weinman was the only Tiger to reach double figures in digs with 19.
FHSU held Embry-Riddle to a negative hitting percentage in the match. Embry-Riddle had 19 kills and 23 errors, hitting -.044 overall. Embry-Riddle hit negative in both the first and second sets before going into the positive with a .138 third set. Mahlet Lee led ERAU with seven kills.
Fort Hays State 3, Bethany (Kan.) 0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16)
The Tigers remained consistent throughout their second match of the day, putting down 14 kills in each of the three sets. Their best hitting performance was in the first set with a .345 attack percentage. FHSU hit .200 or better in all three sets.
Bethany was held to just an .099 attack percentage in the match. Seven of the 17 errors by the Swedes were from Tiger blocks. Lacie Shoemaker was the Bethany leader in kills with seven.
Jenna Ulrich and
Madison Schwartz each had a team-high eight kills, while
Megan Glandon added seven and
Taylor Mares added six. Both, Ulrich and Schwartz hit .500 or better in the match.
Lauren Lorenz edged
Kayla Zoglman for the team lead in assists with 19. Zoglman added 18.
Makenzie Weinman led the Tigers in digs with 16.
