Tigers Host 2 MIAA Rivals this Weekend

The Fort Hays State women's soccer team looks to continue its success at home with two MIAA matches this weekend. The Tigers welcome Washburn to Hays on Friday (Sept. 28) for a 6 p.m. match at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. Emporia State comes to Hays on Sunday (Sept. 30) for a 2 p.m. tilt.
 
The Tigers, currently 5-3 and 1-2, have been impressive at home with a 4-1 record. The only loss was a close 1-0 match to then-No. 8 Central Missouri. The UCM goal is the only goal an opponent has scored at the FHSU Soccer Stadium against the Tigers. FHSU has shutout wins over Friends (6-0), Southwest Baptist (3-0), Midland (2-0) and McPherson (6-0).
 
After two goals against Friends, Sade Humphrey leads the Tigers with four goals. Humphrey also has one assist for nine points on the season. Leading the Tigers in points is freshman Jordan Hester with 10 points. She has three goals, second on the team to Humphrey, and four assists, which is a team high. The Tiger offense has been strong with nine players scoring goals, including seven with multiple goals. The defense has been just as impressive, allowing only four goals in eight games. Nicole Barnaba and Rachael Schaad have split time at goalkeeper with each making four starts. Barnaba is 3-1 with a 0.25 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. Schaad is 2-2 with a 0.75 goals against average and a .800 save percentage.
 
The Lady Blues are currently 1-6 and 1-2 in the MIAA. Their lone win is against Emporia State where WU won 1-0 in Topeka, Kan. The Lady Blues have struggled to score goals with only five total in their first seven matches. Caysie Beetley has scored three of the five goals to lead WU. Tia Stovall and Lindsey Lambert each have one goal. Tori Fuglister has made all seven starts in goal for the Lady Blues. She has a 1.78 goals against average, allowing 13 goals and making 38 saves.
 
The Hornets are 3-4-1 and 0-2-1 in the MIAA. ESU has wins against Augustana College (2-1), East Central University (1-0) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (4-0). In MIAA play, the Hornets are scoreless with two losses and a tie. WU won 1-0 over ESU, and UCM defeated the Hornets 2-0. ESU and SBU played to a 0-0 tie in the Hornets other MIAA match. Mindi Lozenski and Elizabeth High tie for the team-high in goals with two. Four other Hornets have goals, including Jordan Foutch, who adds a team-high two assists. In goal, Nikki Schmitz has eight starts with a 0.85 goals against average and 34 saves.
 
After this weekend, the Tigers have a two-game road trip to Oklahoma where FHSU plays No. 18 Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State.
