Second Half Surge Pushes Tigers to 3-1 Win

Box Score The Fort Hays State Tigers scored three second half, surging to a 3-1 win over Washburn on Friday (Sept. 28) night at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The Tigers upped their record to 6-3 and 2-2 in the MIAA. Washburn is now 1-7 and 1-3 in the MIAA.
 
Washburn scored the only first half goal in the 16th minute as Leah Talley found the back of the net off a pass from Tia Stovall. Although WU lead 1-0 at halftime, the Tigers dominated in shots, 9-2.
 
The shots finally found the back of the goal in the second half with three straight FHSU goals. Sade Humphrey made a nice run down the left side and Alexis Aiman found her with a nice pass that Humphrey put in for a 1-1 tie in the 50th minute. Ten minutes later the duo switched roles as Aiman's shot from the top of the box went in for a 2-1 Tiger advantage. Humphrey's pass set up the goal.
 
Jordan Hester pushed the margin to two with a goal in the 64th minute as she cleaned up right in front of the goal after her own missed shot.
 
The Tigers continued to dominate in shots in the second half, outshooting the Lady Blues, 16-7. In the match, FHSU totaled 25 shots to nine from WU.
 
Nicole Barnaba got the win in goal, upping her record to 4-1. She made five saves while allowing the one goal.
 
FHSU welcomes Emporia State to the FHSU Soccer Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 30) for a 2 p.m. match.
