No. 14 Fort Hays State University men's soccer hits the road this weekend for the final half of the current four-game road trip. The Tigers begin play on Thursday with No. 19 Lindenwood at 7:30 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday with Southwest Baptist.
FHSU (6-1-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) is atop the MIAA standings, and earned a draw with No. 6 Northeastern State last week.
This year's offensive leaders for the Tigers are
Diego Cabral with 10 points (four goals, two assists),
Daniel Peralta with three goals,
Ricardo Yeverino with two goals and one assist (five points) and
Jaccob Rangel, who recently was named MIAA Soccer Athlete of the Week on Oct. 1.
Austin Clifton has added two goals as well for FHSU.
Defensively,
Carlos Linares,
Eric Hymer and
Drew Wilson have started all eight games for the Tigers, while
Tanner Brock has logged two assists in eight starts at midfielder.
In goal, FHSU's
Jason Babyak sports a 5-0-1 record with 29 saves in 595 minutes, and
Kent Freund is 1-1-0 in 180 minutes with six saves.
LU (7-0-1, 1-0-1 MIAA) is second in the MIAA standings, and features top goal scorer Aris Nukic, who leads the team with 13 points (six goals, one assist). Additionally, Fermin Hughes has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference, allowing just five goals and saving 31 shots in 685 minutes of action.
SBU (0-10-0, 0-2-0 MIAA) has struggled to find wins this season, but the key for FHSU will be shutting down Kaleb Romero, who leads the team with eight goals (16 points). In the net, Lajos Zadravecz and Austin Haywood have each seen action, with Zadravecz stopping 24 shots and Haywood notching 41 saves.
FHSU returns home next week to host Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will close out this five-game home stand later in month, squaring off with Northeastern State, Harding and West Texas A&M.
