The Fort Hays State football team looks for its fourth straight win as to even its overall record on the season when it plays at Lincoln University on Saturday (Oct. 26) in Jefferson City, Mo. Game time is set for 2:30 pm as the Tigers are part of the MIAA Television Network Game of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Fort Hays State posted its most points in a game in over a decade in last week's 56-point output against Southwest Baptist in Hays. The last time the Tigers scored more was in 2002 with 58 against Fort Lewis College. The Tigers ride a three-game win streak into the contest with the last two as conference wins. A win for FHSU would produce its first four-game win streak since 2004, a year that saw the Tigers win their last five games of the season.
Fort Hays State has won the last two games against Lincoln, but by narrow margins of three points or less. Last year, FHSU won 28-26 in Hays and in 2011 won 24-21 in Jefferson City. FHSU leads the all-time series 6-2 and owns a five-game win streak against Lincoln heading into Saturday.
Michael Terry earned MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts last week against Southwest Baptist. He had 16 tackles and a 94-yard fumble return in the game.
Nathan Lindsey also had a big defensive game, producing nine tackles, one forced fumble, and a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Alex Schmidtberger and
Shane Smith also had interceptions last week, Smith's also going for a touchdown.
The two interception returns for touchdowns was the first in a game at the NCAA Division II level for Fort Hays State. However, it wasn't the first time it ever happened for the Tigers, with the last occurrence coming in the first game of the 1988 season.
Andre Smith leads the Tiger rushing attack with 593 yards, averaging 84.7 yards per game.
Treveon Albert is adding 54.4 yards per game on the ground at quarterback, while also throwing for 1,127 yards so far this year with an average of 161 per game.
Keaton Callins leads the Tiger receivers with 31 catches and 325 yards. Wide receiver
Ed Williams has made a big splash since his return from injury, averaging 40.8 yards per catch with two touchdowns.
