Box Score
No. 14 Fort Hays State University jumped out to a first half lead but couldn't hold the advantage, falling 4-3 to No. 19 Lindenwood on Thursday evening in St. Charles, Mo.
Â
The Tigers (6-2-1, 2-1-1 MIAA) out-shot the Lions, 16-12, and held the lead on two different occasions, but could not overcome an opportunistic LU (8-0-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) offense.
Â
Ricardo Yeverino led the Tigers with two goals on seven shots for the night, followed by
Diego Cabral with one goal on three shots. Â Â
Daniel Peralta added in assist in the effort.
Â
With just one shot between the two teams fired in the opening minutes, FHSU woke up at 12:30, launching four shots in the next four minutes, including three on goal. Yeverino scored the game's first goal in that span, giving the Tigers' a 1-0 lead.
Â
LU would answer soon after, though, as Andre Hayne took a pass from Mauricio Media and found the net at 19:45.
Â
At the half, tied 1-1, the Tigers had fired eight shots, four more than the Lions, and put three on goal compared to LU's one.
Â
10 minutes into the second half, both teams would again erupt in a flurry of offense. Yeverino scored his second goal of the contest (assisted by Peralta) at 54:08, only to have LU answer at 54:51, when Rodney Mays found the net, re-tying it, 2-2.
Â
FHSU would fall behind by two just before the 70:00 mark. Â At 68:32, Hayne scored his second goal of the evening, followed closely by Media, who had an unassisted goal at 69:33.
Â
Down 4-2, the Tigers refused to yield, as Cabral hit his fifth goal of the year at 76:33. Cabral took a free kick from just outside the box into the net to pull the squad back within one.  That, however, was the final goal of the contest.
Â
The Tigers close out their road trip on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a 3 p.m. matchup at Southwest Baptist. Live stats for that match are available here.
