The Fort Hays State football team, currently at 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA, looks for a winning season on Saturday as it hosts long-time rival Nebraska-Kearney (3-7, 3-5 MIAA) at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. Game time is set for 2 pm. It will be Military Appreciation Day sponsored by Lewis Automotive Group. All current and former military members receive FREE admission by presenting their Military ID.
The first 200 students in to Lewis Field receive a FREE Gameday T-shirt. Tiger Athletics thanks the Kelly Center and the Virtual College for sponsoring the t-shirts. $2 tickets are available at Cerv's (Hall and Vine) by donating 2 canned food items. FHSU Faculty & Staff receive 2 free tickets by presenting their ID at the FHSU Athletic Office by Friday at 4:30pm. Â
FHSU Athletics also invites are area scouts to be part of the National Anthem ceremony on the field Saturday. All scouts in uniform will be admitted for free and can meet near the scoreboard at 1:30pm.
Fort Hays State is looking for its first winning season since 2009, when it went 6-5. The Tigers won last year's meeting with Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 30-23 in Kearney. FHSU has won three of the last four meetings with UNK, dating back to 2003.
Fort Hays State has scored 328 points this season, ranking third all-time for points in a single-season at FHSU. FHSU will need 38 points on Saturday to pass the second-best mark of 365 points, set in 2009.
With 19 yards passing on Saturday,
Treveon Albert would become just the sixth quarterback in FHSU history to throw for 2,000 yards in a season. He currently has 1,981 yards this year on 150 completions. With one passing touchdown, Albert could also become the fourth quarterback in FHSU history to throw for 20 touchdowns in a season as he currently has 19. He has 2,468 yards of total offense this year, which includes 487 rushing yards. He could become just the fifth player in school history to produce 2,500 yards of total offense in a single-season. With 13 rushing yards on Saturday, Albert could become the first-ever quarterback at FHSU to throw for at least 2,000 yards and rush for 500 in the same season.
Andre Smith leads the Tigers in rushing yards with 803 and
Keaton Callins leads the Tiger receivers with 50 catches for 664 yards and nine touchdowns.
Justin McPhail leads the Tiger defense with 82 tackles,
Jeremy Jones leads in sacks with 5.0, and
Micheal Jordan leads in interceptions with four.
