Box Score Fort Hays State posted its first winning season since 2009 winning in convincing fashion over Nebraska-Kearney 56-17 on Saturday (Nov. 16). The Tigers finished 2013 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the MIAA. Nebraska-Kearney dropped to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State churned out an amazing 711 yards of total offense in the game. FHSU had not gained over 600 since 2004. It was a balanced effort with 381 passing yards and 330 rushing yards.

After playing to a 7-7 tie through the first quarter, FHSU outscored UNK 21-10 in the second quarter to lead 28-17 at the half. From that point, the FHSU defense shut down the Loper offense. UNK only had 32 yards of total offense in the second half. FHSU blanked UNK 28-0 in the second half and finished the game with 35 unanswered points.

Andre Smith rushed for a career-high 210 yards on 24 carries, passing his old mark of 204 against Truman in 2011. It also pushed him past the 1,000 yard mark for the season, finishing with 1,013. He averaged 8.8 yards per carry in the game. Edward Smith added 92 yards on just eight carries, averaging 11.5 yards per carry.

Treveon Albert became the first quarterback in FHSU history to throw for at least 2,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in the same season, finishing the game with a career-high 357 passing yards with five touchdowns. The five touchdowns tied a single-game record at FHSU, the sixth time it has occurred. He added 20 rushing yards to finish the season with 2,338 passing yards and 507 rushing yards.

Tanner Hageman led the FHSU receivers with eight receptions. He had 88 yards and one touchdown. Keaton Callins had just three catches for 92 yards, scoring touchdowns of 49 and 24 yards. Ed Williams had four receptions for a team-high 124 yards with two touchdowns. Williams had touchdown receptions of 44 and five yards. Callins finished the year with 11 receiving touchdowns, the third most in a single season at FHSU.

Also putting his name in the record books was kicker Drew O'Brien, who finished the year with a new school record 51 extra-points in a season. He had a total of 66 points for the season, adding five field goals. Callins led the team in scoring this year with 12 total touchdowns for 72 points.

Alex Schmidtberger had a great day defensively, leading the Tigers with 10 tackles, one sack, and one interception. Micheal Jordan had seven tackles and an interception, finishing the year with a team-best five interceptions.

Romero Cotton led UNK with 94 rushing yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Tyler McKeone threw for 163 yards and one touchdown. Tyke Kozeal led UNK in tackles with 13.
