The Tiger women's soccer team returns home this week for two matches, ending a five-game road trip that has left the team looking to get back into the win column. Fort Hays State University will host Bethany College on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and Missouri Southern in a conference matchup on Friday, Sept. 27. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
"It's good to be home," head coach
Craig Shaw said. "We've been away a lot recently. It'll be good to be home in front of our fans, and it'll be nice to get back on the winning streak we'd like to have to finish in the conference where we'd like to."
For the squad, which stands at 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA, those five losses have been hard to swallow in the early season, as four of them have been decided by just one goal, including both conference matches.
FHSU will look for a sweep of home matches to get back on the winning track and into the conference mix.
"We've got to get some luck," Shaw said. "We're getting free kick calls against us and we're not getting penalty calls. We've just got to get some luck and we've got to get a little bit hungrier in the final third (of the game) – a little bit more creative, have a bit more composure when we're having our shots – just have a little better desire to score. Our build-up play is great; we've just to get a little bit more decisive in that final third."
Shaw hoped that by coming home, the team will receive a spark from the friendly crowd.
"Definitely looking to have some fans there – if we can get as many fans as possible it would help us out, just so we can have some more support," Shaw said. "We've had a lot of parents traveling, which has been great, but to have the majority of a crowd going for us – which we do at home – will be really nice to have."
