Fort Hays State Volleyball heads north to Sioux Falls, S.D., this weekend to compete at the NSIC/MIAA Crossover, Sept. 12-13. FHSU will face Minnesota State-Moorhead and the University of Sioux Falls on Friday before closing out the tournament with matches against No. 23 Augustana and Bemidji State on Saturday.  Game times are listed above.

The Tigers got their season off to a strong start at the Henderson State Classic last weekend, going 3-1 with wins over McMurry, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Henderson State. As a team, the Tigers hit .231 on the weekend, averaging 18.7 digs and 1.4 blocks per set.

FHSU's Mallory Flagor picked up right where she left off in 2013, starting the new campaign with 63 kills (a team-high) and a .372 hitting percentage over the first four games. Flagor started all four matches for the Tigers and averaged 4.2 kills per set.

Taylor Mares' 48 kills was second most on the team, as the rightside hitter averaged 3.43 kills per set, appearing in all four matches. Mares added six blocks (second most on the team).

With question marks lingering at the setter position last weekend, Libby Ary and Kristin Conor helped solidify the picture, putting up 97 and 50 assists, respectively, to lead the team. Ary averaged 6.47 assists per set while Conor's 5.00 assist/set average was second best on the team.

Defensively, Keanu Bradley played well as libero, digging up 67 attacks (5.07 per set), in addition to five other Tigers reaching the 20-dig threshold on the weekend.

Rebekah Spainhour, a sophomore expected to help lead a young core of middle hitters, started all four matches last weekend and had 36 kills while leading the team with nine blocks (three solo).

This weekend's games will be Central Region matches for the Tigers, and will be important later in the season when NCAA Tournament bids are on the line.
