Fort Hays State opens its home portion of the 2014 schedule this weekend with MIAA matchups against Nebraska-Kearney and Emporia State. The Tigers will square off with UNK on Friday (Sept. 19) evening at 6 p.m., and close out the weekend against ESU on Sunday (Sept. 21) at 2 p.m.
FHSU (2-2-0) features three of the four top goal scorers in the MIAA, as
Jordan Shaw,
Jordan Hester and
Kelsey Steffens have three goals apiece through four games. Steffens is second overall in points for the MIAA, adding an assist for a team-high seven points. Shaw, Hester and
Hailey Davey (one goal, four assists) each have six points.
Between the pipes,
Kristen Thompson has started all four games for the Tigers, playing every minute with 17 saves and five goals allowed (1.23 goals against average). Thompson has one shutout while facing 42 shots on the year.
UNK (0-2-1) knocked the Tigers out of postseason contention last season, and is led by Montanna Hosterman's one goal and one assist (three points) for the year. In goal, Regan Zach has nine saves and a 2.67 GAA through three games. Lauren Hoeft has one additional goal for UNK, and has played all 290 minutes on the year thus far.
ESU (3-1-0) is led offensively by Jordan Foutch, who has five points (two goals, one assist) in four games played, while Grace Linton (two goals) and Elizabeth High (one goal, two assists) each have four points for the Hornets. ESU has allowed seven goals in four games, giving up 1.75 goals per contest but scoring 2.50 goals per game. Yadira Rivera has started all four games for the Hornets, tallying 25 saves.
