Fort Hays State Women's Soccer hits the road this weekend for MIAA matches at Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern. The Tigers swing through Bolivar, Mo., on Thursday (Sept. 25) for a 4 p.m., contest before closing out the weekend in Joplin, Mo., on Saturday (Sept. 27) at Noon.
FHSU (3-2-1, 1-0-1 MIAA) are coming off the first week of conference play, defeating Nebraska-Kearney, 1-0, in double overtime on
Hailey Davey's goal in the 109th minute, and playing to a 0-0 draw with Emporia State.
Davey's late goal versus the Lopers broke a school record for latest game-winner, and moved the senior forward into a tie for the team lead in points (eight). Davey has two goals and four assists on the year, and is tied with
Kelsey Steffens (three goals, two assists) in the point's category.
Jordan Hester and
Jordan Shaw each have three goals for the season, while
Kylee Loneker,
Jasmine Beaulieu,
Gabrielle Makatura and
Mallory Diederich have each added assists.
Diederich and Makatura have helped anchor a strong defense team, joining
Jamie Babyak and
Hannah Smith as defenders to start all six games for FHSU. The Tigers have limited opponents to five goals for the year and are allowing just 5.8 shots on goal per game (35 total).
Kristen Thompson has played every minute in goal for the Tigers (584:44), saving 30 shots and allowing just five goals (0.77 per game). Thompson has three shutouts on the season, including two last weekend, and boasts a .857 save percentage with 67 shots faced.
SBU (4-1-0, 2-0-0) sits tied for first in the conference standings and picked up wins over MSSU and Central Oklahoma last weekend. Kate and Karla Jamison lead the Bearcats' offense, scoring six goals combined. Karla Jamison leads the team with four goals, while Kate Jamison is tied with Taylor Schmidt and Ali Skogrand for second on the team. Elin Hammar's four assists is a team-high.
In the backfield, SBU has been strong, allowing just eight goals and 62 shots on the year, though five came in one game versus Augustana. Cheyenne Forshey has played a majority of time in net for the Bearcats, totaling 441:06 in goal with 23 saves and seven goals against (1.43 per game).
Missouri Southern (2-3-1, 0-2-0) dropped both MIAA contests last
weekend, falling to SBU and Northeastern State. The Lions have scored 12 goals on the year, led by Casey Vitale's four scores (eight points). Hannah Bomar has been the Lions' top offensive player, scoring three goals and assisting in three (nine points).
Defensively, MSSU has allowed 13 goals and an average of 7.8 shots on goal per game. Beth Hammons has played the entire six games in goal for the Lions, saving 34 shots and allowing 13 goals per game.
