Fort Hays State hosts Lindenwood for Homecoming on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. Game time is set for 2 pm. The Tigers enter at 3-1, while Lindenwood owns a record of 1-3.
Â
**NOTE** - Fans purchasing a ticket to the football game will also receive FREE admission to the FHSU Volleyball match with that ticket following the football game at 6:30 pm. FHSU Volleyball also takes on Lindenwood at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
Â
The Tigers have won two straight games going into Saturday and are receiving votes in the latest AFCA Division II Poll. Lindenwood is on a three-game losing streak after winning its season opener. FHSU leads the all-time series 3-1, winning the last three meetings.
Â
Fort Hays State's success has been sparked by solid defensive play. The Tigers rank second in the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing just 17.8 points per game, and total defense, allowing 374.5 yards per game. The Tigers have held opponents to 20 or less points in all three wins so far.
Â
Lindenwood's defense has struggled as a whole this year, allowing an MIAA worst 484.3 yards per game. The Lions have allowed 26 or more points in all four of their games this year, surrendering 34 or more in three of those games. However, Tiger fans will likely see an all-time, all-level NCAA record broken on Saturday as Lindenwood's Connor Harris needs just two tackles to break the career NCAA tackles record of 550. He currently has 549 in his career.
Â
Shaquille Cooper ranks second in the MIAA in rushing yards per game (86.3).
Jacob Mezera is averaging 180.8 yards passing per game and
Tyler Bacon has a team-high 18 receptions for 189 yards.
Â
Alex Schmidtberger and
Jose Delgado rank third and fourth in the MIAA in tackles with 47 and 43 respectively. Sie Doe Jr., leads the MIAA in both sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (9). The Tigers are +5 in turnover margin so far this year and the defense has scored three touchdowns this year (2 interception returns and one blocked field goal return).
Â
The Tigers are looking for a win on Homecoming for the second year in a row. FHSU defeated Washburn in last year's Homecoming game 35-30.
