After a huge road win against then-No. 20 Missouri Western, the Fort Hays State women's soccer program looks to continue on the winning track as they play host to Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern this weekend. The Tigers are currently 7-3-2 overall with a 4-1-0 MIAA mark.
Senior
Eden Stoddard continues to lead the offensive charge for the Tigers as she owns a team-high seven goals so far this season. Stoddard has reached the 40 shot mark through 12 matches with 25 hitting near target. Silvan Romero, who boosted the Tigers to the 1-0 win over then-No. 20 Missouri Western, accounts for three FHSU goals, while
Darby Hirsch and
Kylie Thomas contributed two.
Jasmine Beaulieu,
Alexa Franks and
Catalina Hernandez each own one goal so far.
As a squad, the Tigers are outshooting their opponents 145-134 through the 12 matches with 65 on frame. They are attempting just over 12 shots per match while giving up 11.
Megan Kneefel, the red-shirt sophomore goalie for the Tigers, has four wins in seven matches played to her name, alongside 32 saves.
On Friday, the Tigers look to get their second-consecutive win against Southwest Baptist as the 2-9-1 Bearcats head to Hays. Last season Fort Hays State captured the close 1-0 win over Southwest Baptist on the road. The Bearcats are led by Raegan Edwards who accounts for four Southwest Baptist goals on the year. Edwards has 22 shots under her belt this season, also good for a team-high.
Four other Bearcats have documented at least one goal in their matches. Southwest Baptist is getting out-shot by its opponents 194-100, while averaging less than a goal a match. The Bearcats are currently on a seven-match slip as they have dropped all of their matches since a 2-0 win over Missouri Southern State in mid-September.
A Sunday match will pair the Tigers up against Missouri Southern who brings in a 1-8-2 overall record and a 1-4-2 MIAA mark. The Griffons, on a two-match losing-streak, face off against a Tiger squad riding a two-game MIAA win-streak. Taylor Beck leads the Griffons as she boasts two goals in 18 shots. Missouri Southern's opponents are outshooting the Griffons by a 156-108 margin in their 11 matches played. Anchoring the Griffon's in goal is Hannah Stevenson who has brought in 38 saves with a 1-5-1 record in net. The Tigers are currently on a three-match win-streak against the Griffons as the last time Missouri Southern gave the Tigers a fit was in a 1-1 tie during the 2013 regular-season.
Friday's match against Southwest Baptist is set for kickoff at 6 p.m., while the Sunday contest against Missouri Southern is slated for a 1 p.m. first-kick time. Both matches will be played at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays.Â
