Fort Hays State already has its first-ever MIAA title in hand entering Saturday (Nov. 11), but the No. 5 ranked Tigers still have plenty to play for in the regular season finale against long-time rival Nebraska-Kearney. Senior Day kicks off at 2 pm inside Lewis Field Stadium. The Tigers enter at 10-0, while the Lopers are 3-7.
Â
Ranked No. 1 in Super Region 3 the last two weeks, Fort Hays State looks to do everything it can to hold on to that position on Saturday. Indianapolis, ranked No. 2 in the super region, is still undefeated like FHSU and plays an 8-2 Notre Dame (Ohio) squad in non-conference play. Notre Dame (Ohio) is currently tabbed No. 8 in Super Region 1, so it most likely needs a win to get in the playoffs.
Â
Along with trying to hang on to the No. 1 ranking and secure a bye in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs, the Tigers are also playing for an undefeated regular season. The Tigers are trying to run the table in one of the premier conferences of Division II, the MIAA. All teams in the MIAA play a full 11-game conference schedule without non-conference games. FHSU has already set a new program record for wins in a season, two past the previous high of eight, reached eight times by teams of the past.

Playoff Picture
-If the Tigers win Saturday and are chosen as the No. 1 seed in Super Region 3 on Sunday, the Tigers would receive a bye past the first round of the playoffs and await an opponent in the second round. The No. 1 seeds in all four Super Regions will not play until November 25 and will have home field advantage within each Super Region bracket.
-If the Tigers are chosen as anything other than the No. 1 seed in Super Region 3 on Sunday, the Tigers will play in the opening round of the playoffs on November 18. Seeds 2-4 will host home games, while seeds 5-7 go on the road.
Â
Fort Hays State clinched the MIAA Championship last weekend with a thrilling 13-12 win over then No. 8 ranked Northwest Missouri State. It snapped a 23-game home winning streak of the two-time defending national champ Bearcats.
Â
The Tigers are looking for their sixth straight win over the Lopers. FHSU has won every meeting since UNK joined the MIAA in 2012. FHSU is looking for its third straight win over UNK in Hays.
Â
Last week,
Jacob Mezera eclipsed the 5,000-yard passing mark for his career, the fifth FHSU quarterback in history to reach that milestone. He averages 245 passing yards per game and has thrown for 20 touchdowns this season.
Â
Kenneth Iheme continues to lead the MIAA in rushing yards per game (111.8), while
Monterio Burchfield is the top Tiger receiver with 42 catches for 894 yards and eight touchdowns.
Â
The Tigers currently rank 12
th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 14.5 points per game, and they are 22
nd in the nation in total defense, allowing 291.9 yards per game. Leading the defense in tackles is
Jose Delgado with 87 for the season, while
Nathan Shepherd leads in sacks with four and
Doyin Jibowu leads in interceptions with five.
