Tigers take on RiverHawks in Central Region Final

The Fort Hays State men's soccer team faces the Northeastern State RiverHawks in the Central Regional Final on Thursday (Nov. 16) at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. CT). The match will be hosted at Alderson-Broaddus' home turf in Philippi, West Virginia. The RiverHawks will be the home team as they earned the top seed in the region.

The top of the Midwest Regional, Ohio Valley University, advanced past their semifinal match with Davis & Elkins on a PK shootout after a 1-1 tie. They will host the No. 2 seed Rockhurst University, which moved on to the Midwest Regional final after a 1-0 victory over third-seeded Maryville (MO) University. This is the Hawks' third straight trip to the regional final. The match is set for Thursday (Nov. 16) at 4 p.m. (3 p.m. CT).

The Tigers will look to break the tie with the RiverHawks after splitting the season series, each team winning on their home pitch.

FHSU has the MIAA Player of the Year, Derick Gonzalez, who led the nation in assists over the course of the regular season with 14. He also ranked second in assists per match (.78). He led the team in nearly every offensive category and will look to continue his leadership on the pitch against NSU this week. The Tigers are also geared up with nine total all-conference selections and the MIAA Coach of the Year, Brett Parker.

Northeastern State also boasts nine All-MIAA selections including a unanimous pick in Joe Garcia, who tied for the lead in goals in the conference with Michele Ganz of Lindenwood with 12 on the year. Garcia led the RiverHawks in every offensive category and was a vital part in getting them to the top seed in the region.

The winners of each match will move on to the National Quarterfinals, which will take place on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 1 p.m. (12 p.m. CT).
