Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Advance Past Hornets Behind Stoddard's Two Goals

In an offensive powered match, the Tigers got back to their winning ways as they slipped past Emporia State 3-2 in a non-conference match. Fort Hays State improves to 3-1-2 on the season after capturing their first victory in three matches.

Eden Stoddard got back to leading the Tigers on the pitch as she netted two goals to improve her season stat line in that category to five on the season. The first goal for Stoddard came after a rebound from Kylie Thomas at the 11 minute mark. Her second was a header off a cross from Jasmine Beaulieu 23 minutes into the match. Beaulieu would also put her name in the game as she earned her first goal of the season late in the second half off the cross bar to go-ahead and eventually seal the win.

With the Tigers leading the contest heading into halftime 2-0, the Hornets hoped to come out of the locker room with scoring on their mind. That scoring developed with 15 minutes left in the contest as back-to-back goals from Tanna Benfiel and Erica Self tied up the contest at 2-2. The offense could not hold up after that as Beaulieu netted her goal to help the Tigers to their third win of the season.

Kristen Thompson was back in goal for the Tigers as she captured two saves on the night. Thompson improves her saves this season to 15 on the year. With the win, Thompson is now 3-0 behind the net this season.

Next up for the Tigers is their first home game of the season as they take on Washburn in a non-conference match Friday (Sept. 22) at 8 p.m. at the Fort Hays State Soccer Stadium following the men's match.
