The Fort Hays State women's soccer team looks to get back to its winning ways after dropping their last match to Washburn 1-0. The Tigers now sit at 3-2-2 on the season and look to host Emporia State on Sunday (Sept. 24) to open MIAA regular season play.
In their last match, the Tigers gave up a goal to Washburn to suffer their second loss in three matches. Led by
Eden Stoddard who has five goals to her name so far, Fort Hays State will aim to win their first conference match of the season. The Tigers have outshot their opponents through seven matches 80-62 with 40 coming in late match moments. Aside from Stoddard, five other Tigers have found the back of the net with one goal each.
In goal, Fort Hays State is anchored by
Kristen Thompson who has documented 20 saves in five matches played. Thompson's 2017 record now sits at 3-1-0. For the Hornets, they are led behind the net by Bethany Reeves who has recorded 19 saves and boasts a 4-1-0 record in her position.
Ashlynn Summar and Kennedy Hoffman continue to lead the Hornets with two goals each. The Hornets have a slight advantage over their opponents as they have outshot them 61-56. Coming into the match, Emporia State sits at 4-2-1 overall, including going 1-1-1 in their last three matches.
This will be the second meeting between the Tigers and the Hornets in just one week. Last Sunday in Emporia, Fort Hays State earned the 3-2 win in an offensive blitz for both programs. This will be the 12
th meeting between the two squads with Fort Hays State leading the charge in the series at 7-1-3 all-time.
The match is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium, but weather may affect the schedule. The athletics website will update the anticipated start as soon as possible.Â
