The Tigers fought an uphill battle all year to get a chance at a second straight MIAA title after losses in Weeks 2 and 6. A 17-16 win at Northwest Missouri State last week ultimately put the Tigers back in position to claim the title with just one more opponent standing in their way, a winless Northeastern State squad. Should the Tigers win on Saturday, they would also solidify a spot in the NCAA Playoffs for a second straight year. The Tigers improved their position in the NCAA Super Region 3 Rankings with the win at NWMSU, now sitting at No. 5 in the rankings, while dropping NWMSU to No. 6 in the rankings. The top seven teams in the Super Region following Saturday will play in the NCAA Playoffs. Northwest Missouri State also enters the final week at 8-2 and plays at Central Missouri on Saturday.

Ten seniors will receive recognition prior to the game, which includes
Jose Delgado,
Jacob Mezera,
Doyin Jibowu,
Connor Shedeed,
Aquil Knowles,
Erin Gaither,
Rex Diederich,
Wyatt Parker,
Malik Young, and
Geoffrey Lodge.
Â
The Tigers are looking for a fifth straight win over Northeastern State. FHSU claimed last year's meeting, also in Hays, by a score of 31-7. The Tigers jumped out to a 24-0 lead in that game by halftime before both teams scored seven points in the second half.
Â
Jacob Mezera continues to lead the Tiger offense with 2,015 passing yards and 15 touchdowns this season. However, the Tigers have two potent quarterbacks this year with the emergence of
Chance Fuller, who has 860 passing yards on the season giving the Tigers two solid options at the position. Fuller threw for 240 yards at Northwest Missouri State after having a season-high 274 yards against Lindenwood in Week 9.
Â
The pair has had plenty of targets to throw to this season, led by
Layne Bieberle and
Harley Hazlett. Both have over 700 receiving yards this season, Bieberle with 711 and Hazlett with 708. Hazlett leads the MIAA in receptions with 68. Tight end
Matt Wendelberger is on the verge of going over 500 receiving yards for the season with 493.
Charles Tigner and
D.J. Hickman have combined for over 1,000 rushing yards this season in the backfield, while both have over 100 receiving yards.
Â
On the defensive side of the ball,
Jose Delgado continues to lead the Tigers in tackles with 98 for the season. He looks to eclipse the 100-tackle mark for the third straight season.
Connor Shedeed has 80 tackles this year to go with his team-leading three interceptions.
Wyatt Parker leads the team in sacks (5) and forced fumbles (4), while adding 57 tackles.
Aquil Knowles and
Doyin Jibowu lead the Tigers in pass breakups with 11 and 10 respectively.
Â
The Tigers have a chance to reach the nine-win mark in a season for just the second time in program history. The school record for wins in a season was eight for a very long time until last year's team won 11 games and shattered the school record. This year's team has a chance to go past eight for the second straight year. The seniors that have played for FHSU since 2015 have helped the program to a 35-11 record so far in their time on the field.
