FHSU Women's Soccer looks to continue climbing in the MIAA standings this week when it hosts Missouri Western on Friday (Oct. 8) and Northwest Missouri State on Sunday (Oct. 10). Friday's contest begins at 6 pm and Sunday's contest is at 1 pm.
The Tigers are fresh off a 2-0 win against Newman at home last Sunday and now hold an overall record of 4-3-3 (1-2 MIAA). Jordan Thompson and Jersey Garoutte scored goals in that contest, while Thompson had FHSU's only goal in the match before against Central Oklahoma. All four of the Tiger wins this season have been shutouts and the Tigers have put up 10 goals in those contests. Overall, the Tigers have outscored opponents 13-6 so far and have taken 150 shots compared to 95 by opponents. The Tiger defense has posted five clean sheets this season and keeper Deonna Wellbrock has posted 45 saves so far.
Missouri Western is currently 5-3-2 overall (2-1 MIAA), fresh off of a 3-0 win over Washburn last week. They have outscored opponents 19-13 and average over 15 shots a match. Northwest Missouri has posted a 5-4-1 overall record (1-2 MIAA) with their most recent match ending in a defeat to No. 6 ranked Emporia State 4-1. The Bearcats have outscored opponents 22-19 so far and have compiled 68 total saves.
FHSU is 9-1-3 all-time against MWSU with the last match ending in a 3-0 victory in St. Joseph, Mo. Back in 2019. The Tigers have not lost to the Griffons at home, posting a 6-0-2 record in Hays. The Tigers are 7-1-1 against NWMSU with the last match ending in a 1-1 tie in Maryville in 2019. The Tigers won seven straight matches against the Bearcats from 2012-2018.
