The fourth-seeded Fort Hays State women's soccer team plays in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Friday (Nov. 4), taking on top-seeded Central Missouri for a chance to play for the championship. Start time of Friday's match will now be 1 p.m. due to weather forecasted for later in the day in Warrensburg.
The Tigers advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2018 after a 2-0 win over fifth-seeded Central Oklahoma in Hays last week. FHSU (11-1-7) has scored 25 goals so far this season, while allowing only eight goals - the fewest in the MIAA and the fifth-fewest in NCAA Division II. Hannah Mares leads the way for the Tigers with eight goals on the season, while Montserrat Diaz has five. Both scored in the 2-0 win over UCO in the quarterfinals.
Central Missouri has a 16-1-2 overall record this season, while outscoring opponents 51-17. The Jennies claimed the MIAA regular season title for the third-straight season finishing the year 9-1-1 in the conference. The Tigers were responsible for the Jennies' lone draw in conference play, a 1-1 result in Hays. UCM leads the all-time series 12-3-1. The last time the Tigers beat the Jennies in Warrensburg was in the 2012 MIAA Tournament championship game, a 2-1 result in double overtime.
The winner of this match will face either second-seeded Emporia State or third-seeded Northwest Missouri State in the championship.
