Fort Hays State Women's Soccer will be on the road this week as they face Northwest Missouri State on Friday (Sep. 23) at 3 p.m. before taking on Missouri Western on Sunday (Sep. 25) at 1 p.m.
Fort Hays State (5-0-3, 0-0-1 MIAA) is coming off a win over Washburn and a draw with Emporia State last week. The match against Emporia State was the conference opener for both team. The Tigers have five shutouts this season, while outscoring their opponents 10-4. Montserrat Diaz leads the team in scoring with four goals and Hannah Mares is next in line with three scores. In addition, Diaz has scored three game-winning goals which is tied for the best mark in the MIAA this season. The Tiger defense has made a huge impact on the team's success, allowing the fewest goals in the conference. FHSU keeper Isabel Robben has been solid between the posts with an .886 save percentage, which is the second-best in the MIAA.
Northwest Missouri State (4-2-2, 0-1 MIAA) suffered a 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Central Missouri in its conference opener. The Bearcats are tied with the Tigers for the fewest goals allowed in the MIAA with four. Northwest Missouri State averages 15 shots per match and has scored 12 goals so far this season. The Tigers lead the all-time series with the Bearcats 7-2-1, despite falling last season in Hays by a score of 1-0. The Tigers won seven matches in a row in the series from 2012 to 2018.
Missouri Western (3-3-2, 1-0 MIAA) defeated Missouri Southern 1-0 in its MIAA opener. The Griffons have scored seven goals so far this season and are averaging 11 shots per match. FHSU leads the all-time series 9-2-3. The Griffons took last year's meeting by a score of 1-0 in Hays.
