The Fort Hays State women's soccer team will take on a pair of MIAA teams this week as a part of three-game non-conference stretch against conference opponents. The Tigers will travel north to face Nebraska-Kearney on Friday (Sep. 9) at 7 p.m. before battling in-state rival Emporia State on Sunday (Sep. 11) with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Fort Hays State (3-0-1) picked up a pair of 1-0 victories at home last week over Wayne State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. All three of FHSU's wins this year have been shutouts, only allowing one goal so far this season. Hannah Mares leads the team in scoring with two goals. Isabel Robben has nine saves in goal for the Tigers in addition to her three shutout appearances between the posts.
Nebraska-Kearney (0-1-1) played to a scoreless draw in their last match with Southwest Minnesota State. The Tigers lead the all-time series 13-3-1 against the Lopers after winning the last matchup 3-1 in Kearney last season.
Emporia State (1-3) earned its first win of the season by a score of 5-1 against Minot State last week. The Tigers lead the series 8-5-5 all-time. Fort Hays State has not defeated Emporia State since 2017, now a span of six matches, though they have tied twice within that run of matches.
Nebraska-Kearney, Emporia State, and Washburn are three conference teams the Tigers play in non-conference play each season before jumping into the 11-match conference schedule. The MIAA has three pods of four teams each that play non-conference games against each other every season.
Live stats and live video will be available for both matches.
