Tigers Win Thriller in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. - In an electrifying showdown at Newman's Wilkins Field, Fort Hays State secured a pivotal victory against Newman with a late goal. Now 4-5-2 overall, the Tigers outlasted the Jets by a final score of 2-1.

The Tigers delivered an impressive display of teamwork that resulted in a goal in the 11th minute. Tadhg Walsh netted his third of the season on a header, capitalizing on a precise assist from Mika Leue. FHSU took its 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the 81st minute, the Jets rallied as Alberto Romano notched his fourth goal of the season, leveling the score at 1-1. Yet, it was Fort Hays State with the last word. In the 88th minute, Elias Ovelar Semeniuk seized a critical opportunity with a composed finish. Tadhg Walsh sent a ball into the box that was redirected by Blake Arndt over to Ovelar Semeniuk for the game winner. It marked his second goal of the season, propelling the Tigers into the lead with a couple of minutes to play.

Throughout the game, Scott Pengelly made a series of critical saves, concluding with four. Meanwhile, on the opposing side, Juan Carlos Cordova made six saves.

The Tigers now hold a conference record of 3-1-2 as they continue to apply pressure to Southern Nazarene and Rogers State in front of them. The Tigers now have a five-game home stretch, starting with 22nd-ranked Rogers State this Saturday (Oct. 14) at 6 p.m.
