Women's Soccer Prepares for Final Set of MIAA Matches

The Fort Hays State women's soccer team wraps up their regular season this weekend with two matches. The Tigers have already solidified a spot in the conference tournament but have their hopes set high for the regular season conference title. In order to do so the Tigers must win both matches this week. Fort Hays State will first host the No. 6 Washburn Ichabods on Friday (Oct. 27) for senior night and conclude the regular season with Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday (Oct. 29).

The Tigers are coming off a 1-1 week, defeating MSSU then falling to UCM last week. Fort Hays State sits at 11-2-3 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play. The seven conference wins serves to be the most the Tigers have had since 2018 and they will look to add two more this week.

Fort Hays State will look to avenge their loss against Washburn on Friday after falling to the Ichabods earlier this season by a score of 2-1. The Ichabods are currently the top team in the MIAA conference and are a top-10 nationally ranked program in the latest poll. The Ichabods are 14-1-1 overall and are undefeated in conference play at 8-0-1. The team is currently riding a four-game winning streak and has not let an opposing offense score more than two goals in a match against them since their second contest of the season against UMSL. Fort Hays State is 12-7-2 all-time when playing Washburn.

Nebraska-Kearney sits just one spot outside the cut line for the postseason play at 2-5-2 in the MIAA, 3-11-2 overall. The Lopers are coming off a win against Missouri Southern State and will start their week against Emporia State on Friday before hosting the Tigers on Sunday.

The first round of the 2023 MIAA conference soccer tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 3rd. The semifinals and championship of the tournament will be held at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan.
