Tigers Clash with Jets and Bronchos This Weekened

The Fort Hays State women's soccer team hosts two conference opponents this weekend starting with the Newman Jets on Friday (Oct. 6). Kickoff for Friday is set for 6 p.m. The Tigers then will face the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma on Sunday (Oct. 8) at 2 p.m.

The Tigers are currently tied with Central Missouri for the second place spot in the MIAA conference rankings, both with records of 2-0-1. Washburn holds the top spot with a 3-0 conference record. Fort Hays State has really hung their hat on playing solid team defense this season. The Tigers rank third in goals allowed with just seven through the 10 matches. FHSU also ranks third in goals scored offensively with 17.

The Newman Jets enter the week at 2-7-1 overall, and 1-2 in conference action. The Jets are led by Dylan Gruntzel who is in his second season as head coach for Newman. The Jets earned their lone conference win against Missouri Southern last week at home with a 2-1 final score. The Newman offense is still looking to build up their attack, scoring just six goals thus far this year. The offense will look to operate through Maylani Birckbickler who leads the team with three goals. The Jets have allowed the most goals in the MIAA with 27.

Central Oklahoma will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night before coming down to play the Tigers on Sunday. The Bronchos enter this week of play at 3-2-5 overall, and 0-0-3 in MIAA matches. The Bronchos have tied with Missouri Southern, Northeastern State, and No. 10 Central Missouri throughout conference play. Central Oklahoma is unbeaten at 2-0-2 on the road up to this point in the season.

The Tigers will take a road trip to Oklahoma next weekend to play against Northeastern State and Rogers State.
