Day One of Washburn Open in the Books

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams picked up one victory and sit in first place in another discipline after Friday's day one of the Washburn Open and Multis (Feb. 3).

Freshman Reba Mader picked up a first-place finish for the second week in a row, beating 24 other runners to the line in the 600y run with a time of 1:26.68. After etching her name in second on the FHSU DII era performance chart in the 400m dash and in fourth in the 600m run earlier in the season, the Grand Island, Neb. native now sits in fifth on the chart for the 600y run.

Nolan Churchman sits in first place in the men's heptathlon after accumulating 3,041 points across the first four events. The school-record holder in the event with a final total of 5,433 points, Churchman's top event of the day came in the 60m dash where he tallied 844 points thanks to a time of 7.11.

Annabeth Baalmann vaulted her way to a second-place finish in the open division of the pole vault, clearing a collegiate-best 11-1.75. The freshman's performance is good for ninth place at FHSU during the DII era.

Two other Tigers placed in the top 10 behind Mader in the 600y run, with Hannah Wiebe finishing fifth (1:29.59) and Hattie Lukert placing eighth (1:30.66).

Lyric Holman opened her weekend with a ninth-place finish in the 200m dash, running in 25.03.
