Fort Hays State Men's Soccer is the No. 10 seed in Super Region 3 of the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 7 seed Davenport in the opening round on Friday (Nov. 22). The match is set to take place in Lebanon, Ill., with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. The Tigers enter the tournament 12-3-4 overall, fresh off the GAC Tournament Championship.
The Tigers boast one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation, leading the GAC with an impressive 56 goals this season. The Tigers own the third-best scoring offense in the nation and rank seventh nationally in goal differential (+33). The Tigers have 15 players who have scored goals this season. Forwards
Elias Ovelar Semeniuk and
Bastian Carlman lead the way with eight goals each. Meanwhile, midfielder
Tadhg Walsh is tied for the national lead in assists with 15 and leads the team in points (25). The Tigers rank third nationally in shots per match (18.89) and points per match (8.74), while also averaging 8.32 shots on goal per contest (8
th nationally).
Goalkeeper
Ben Dixon was instrumental in the Tigers' GAC/MIAA Tournament title, recording 12 saves across two matches, including a clutch performance in the semifinal penalty shootout against Rogers State. He saved the final shot of the shootout to give FHSU a 7-6 decision to move on to the championship match.
Dimitry Tchantcheu was another key contributor, playing all 200 minutes in the tournament while adding a critical goal in the Rogers State match. He earned tournament MVP honors.
Davenport finished fourth in the GLIAC regular season standings with a conference record of 5-4-3 and enters the opening round match at 9-7-4 overall. DU averages 1.25 goals per match on 12.5 shots. Easton Lopez leads the Panther attack with six goals and 14 points this season. A notable win for Davenport early in the year was a 2-1 decision over Super Region 3 No. 4 seed Tiffin.
If the Tigers advance past Friday, they will face No. 2 seed and weekend host McKendree University in the second round (Round of 32) on Sunday (Nov. 24) at 1 p.m. McKendree enters the tournament with an undefeated record of 12-0-7, having conceded just seven goals all season. The Bearcats lead the nation with 13 shutouts, anchored by goalkeeper Christian Herluf, who holds the second-highest save percentage in the country at .851. Philipp Schmidt leads McKendree in points and assists while contributing five goals.
