Kreutzer Hits for Cycle as Tigers Soar by Jets

WICHITA, Kan.. – The Fort Hays State baseball team delivered an outstanding performance against Newman University on Tuesday (March 12), resulting in a resounding victory. The Tigers had a big day offensively, securing an impressive 18-3 win over Newman in Topeka, Kan.
 
Brady Kreutzer and Elliott Herrmann led the charge, combining for an impressive nine hits and seven RBIs. Kreutzer's stellar performance resulted in a cycle, going 4-4 with a home run, triple, double, and single with two RBIs and two walks, while scoring four times. Kreutzer's cycle is the first since Jay Sanders did it back in April of 2013 in Topeka, Kan.
 
Trey DeGarmo started the run scoring with a double to left field, scoring Kreutzer. Herrmann then cleared the remaining bases with a three-run homer to center field. Kreutzer got his home run early in the second inning.
 
The Tigers' offensive explosion continued in the fourth, scoring four on five hits, which included home runs from Jamison Armstrong and Isaiah Ural and a Kreutzer double. Pinch hitter Shaun Gomez went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Kreutzer tallied an RBI triple in the fifth before finishing his cycle in the sixth with a single. Herrmann finished with a big stat line of 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs.
 
Andrew Hansen got the start on the bump, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up just three earned runs. Dylan Rinker came in to relieve him and pitched a scoreless 2.1 innings, giving up just one hit. Tanner Vaughn and Will Isaly both tallied an inning of work, both giving up no hits.
 
The victory extends Fort Hays State's impressive record to 18-6 (6-4 MIAA) for the season, and marks the sixth win in a row for the Tigers. The TIgers have scored a combined 33 runs the past three games. The Tigers have a tough road series ahead, facing Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
