EDMOND, Okla. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped the final game of the three-game series at Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon (March 17). The Tigers (18-9, 6-7 MIAA) tallied a pair of hits while the Bronchos (21-5, 9-4 MIAA) had 12.
Central Oklahoma had a big first inning by scoring four runs on five hits in the inning taking advantage early. After the Bronchos got out to an early lead, they tallied another run after a single in the bottom of the second. The Tigers were able to get on the board in the top of the third when
Brady Kreutzer homered down the right field line, making it 1-5.
The fourth inning saw the Bronchos score again after a couple singles and a wild pitch. UCO was able to squeeze three more runs on two hits in the fourth. The Bronchos did not score again till scoring off a double to right field in the seventh.
Right hand senior
Trevor Baugh went 0.2 innings giving up five hits and four earned while striking out a batter.
Dylan Rinker came in to relieve Baugh, pitching a solid 4.2 innings striking out six.
Brett Jacobs came in for 2.2 innings, giving up just a pair of hits and an earned run.
Dax Sharp, UCO starter, went 6.0 innings striking out four on two Tiger hits, giving up the home run from Kreutzer. Chase Yarger came in after Sharp and was able to keep the Tigers scoreless through the rest of the game.
Jose Cintron and Kreutzer were the only Tigers able to tally a hit on the day, with
Elliott Herrmann,
Sebastian Burgos and
Justin Lipka getting on base from walks.
The Tigers will now travel to Warrensburg, Mo. for a three-game series against Central Missouri.
