Women's Cross Country Holds Steady at No. 23 Nationally

NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State women's cross country held steady at No. 23 in the country in this week's USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Coaches Poll, announced Wednesday (Oct. 1).

The Tigers picked up 11 additional points in the balloting process this time around, up to 67 points after picking up 56 points last week. FHSU is now just six points behind No. 22 and 16 back of the top 20.

Colorado School of Mines jumped three spots to No. 1 in this week's pole, dethroning the defending national champs in Adams State. Fort Hays State is one of five MIAA teams in the rankings alongside No. 14 Pittsburg State, No. 18 Missouri Southern, No. 19 Rogers State and No. 20 Nebraska-Kearney.

The women remain sixth in the latest Central Region rankings, while the men are slotted 10th in the region this week.

Fort Hays State has had a strong start to the season, defeating three NCAA Division I teams while finishing behind a fellow DII program only once in seventh-ranked Western Colorado.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season at home with the Tiger Open next Saturday (Oct. 10), with the women's five-kilometer race slated to begin at 10 a.m.
