NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - A small number of runners representing the 26th-ranked Fort Hays State women's cross country team picked up another second-place finish Saturday (Sept. 13) at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational. The limited Tiger top five combined for 48 team points, just 10 shy of Kansas Wesleyan who came out on top of the nine-team field.

Eva Cortes paced the FHSU squad, finishing in third place out of 94 finishers with a time of 19:05.8.
Cate Wiese completed the five-kilometer trek in 19:53.3, good for fifth place.
Margaret Browning was also in the top 10, placing eighth with a time of 20:22.4.
Brenna Murphy crossed the line in 20:31.5 to place 14th, while
Makenzie Premer rounded out the top five in 18th place after turning in a time of 20:48.2.

Kansas Wesleyan placed five runners in the top 12 to win the team title with 38 points. Butler Community College's Elizabeth Hernandez secured the individual title after winning with a time of 18:46.2, more than 16 seconds in front of second place.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will return to competition at the end of the month when they travel to Stillwater, Okla. for the Cowboy Jamboree on Friday, September 26. The Tigers will then conclude the regular season next month when they host the FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday, October 11.
