Fort Hays State Women's Soccer is back on the road this weekend for a pair of conference matchups, beginning Friday (Oct. 17) against No. 21 ranked Northwest Missouri State (7-3, 4-1 MIAA) in Maryville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Tigers will then travel to St. Joseph on Sunday (Oct. 19) to face Missouri Western (6-1-3, 2-1-2 MIAA) at 1 p.m. FHSU is coming off its first win in MIAA play this season after a 3-0 win over Newman.
Â
Northwest Missouri State enters Friday's match ranked No. 21 nationally and sits fourth in the MIAA. The Bearcats are coming off a road split last week, suffering a narrow 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Central Missouri before rebounding with a 1-0 win over Rogers State. Northwest Missouri has proven to be one of the top defensive teams in the conference, and will look to maintain that form at home this weekend.
Â
Historically, Fort Hays holds the upper hand in the all-time series against Northwest Missouri, leading 9-3-1. However, Northwest has had success in recent seasons, winning two of the last four meetings. In last year's matchup, the Bearcats edged the Tigers 2-1 in Hays.
Â
Missouri Western currently sits in the middle in the MIAA standings and are coming off a close 1-0 loss to nationally ranked Central Missouri. The loss was the first of the season for MWSU, which opened the season unbeaten through nine matches. The Griffons were an NCAA Tournament participant last year. Like the series with NWMSU, FHSU has a commanding lead in the all-time series 10-2-5. The Tigers and Griffons have tied their last two meetings.
