Fort Hays State Men's Soccer will face Rockhurst in the third round (round of 16) of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 30). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Hays. The No. 4 ranked Tigers enter at 18-0-3 overall, while the No. 10 ranked Hawks are 12-4-4 overall.
The two semifinal matches within Super Regional 3 of the NCAA Tournament will feature the four highest-seeded teams, as there were no upsets by seed in the previous round. No. 1 seed Fort Hays State faces No. 4 seed Rockhurst and No. 2 seed Rogers State faces No. 3 seed Lincoln. All four teams are ranked within the Top 15 of the national rankings. Both Fort Hays State (GAC/MIAA) and Rockurst (GLVC) were regular season champions of their respective conferences.
Of the 16 teams remaining in the national tournament, 13 are nationally ranked. Only one of the teams remaining in Super Regional 4 is unranked and two of the four in Super Regional 2 are unranked.
The Tigers and Hawks are meeting for the second time this year. FHSU and Rockhurst met in the season opener in Kansas City back on September 4, a match that FHSU won 1-0. The Tigers netted the lone goal of the match in the 49
th minute with
Juan Linares finding the net in at close range off assists from
Harrison Bensouda and
Mario Leal Vales.
Fort Hays State has won the last two meetings with Rockhurst, including the match this season and a meeting in the season opener last year in Hays. FHSU is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings going back to 2018.
Fort Hays State has reached 18 wins for the first time in its 15-year program history. The Tigers will be looking to advance to the national quarterfinals for the sixth time in their program history. FHSU has a record of 4-3-1 in the NCAA Tournament round of 16.
Earlier this week, the Tigers had 10 players named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Team, led by
Elias Ovelar Semeniuk, the Central Region Player of the Year. Ovelar Semeniuk has 15 goals, the second most in the nation, and 34 points for the season, which ranks fifth nationally.
Juan Linares has 24 points and nine goals for the season, while
Bastian Carlman has seven goals and 21 points for the season. The trio of Tiger forwards account for half (31) of Fort Hays State's 62 goals for the season.
Payton Roehrich moved to the top of the list for single-season individual shutouts in program history, now with nine after the 3-0 win over Indianapolis in the round of 32 last week. He has an .849 save percentage and 0.45 goals against average for the season.
Rockhurst is led in goals by Immanuel Wayoro and Kaden Cripe, each with eight. A pair of assists puts Wayoro at the top of the Hawks' points list with 18, followed by Cripe with 16. Rockhurst has used a pair of goalkeepers throughout the season, both with similar numbers. Franco Briani Brunoro has a .794 save percentage and 0.64 goals against average, while Stefano Camerlengo has a .771 save percentage and 0.85 goals against average.
