The Fort Hays State volleyball team continues its non-conference season Thursday and Friday (Sept. 11-12) when FHSU hosts five other schools in the Tiger Classic. It's the second two-day, 10-match tournament inside Gross Memorial Coliseum after Fort Hays State went 3-1 at the Tiger Invitational last weekend.

Opposing schools making the trip to Hays include Augustana, Bethel, Midwestern State, New Mexico Highlands and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers will first take on the NMHU Cowgirls on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. before battling the Augustana Vikings at 4:30 p.m. later that afternoon. FHSU will continue action on Friday at 11:30 a.m. when it hosts the NWOSU Rangers before taking on the MSU Mustangs to wrap things up at 7 p.m.

Admission to the FHSU Tiger Classic is available for $10 for adults and $5 for students, youth and seniors. Each day will be held as a single session. Separate tickets must be purchased for Thursday and Friday. Tickets can be purchased in
advance online here or at the door.

The Tigers posted an attack percentage of .256 across their four matches last week while limiting opponents to a swing rate of .206. The defense is averaging 16.3 digs per frame while the front line is putting up an average of 1.6 blocks per set.

Ashlyn Reeves was named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament team after leading the team with 59 points across 16 sets. She racked up 3.00 kills per frame, swinging at a team-best .340 clip, while adding 0.88 blocks per set and three service aces.

Abrey Galt was also recognized on the All-Tournament team after distributing a team-best 114 assists, good for an average of 7.60 per set. The senior also added 10 kills compared to only one attack error while contributing four blocks, 34 digs and one service ace.

Grace Schmedding is leading the way thus far with an average of 3.07 kills per set while posting an attack percentage of .207. Three other Tigers also average more than two kills per frame, including
Gracie Rains (2.79),
Ella Goodwin (2.29) and
Peyton Bergschneider (2.23).

Schmedding also leads the team in the back row, digging out an average of 3.21 digs per set.
Kirsten Evans is tied with Schmedding with a team-best 45 digs, averaging 2.65 digs per frame.

New Mexico Highlands is 3-1 thus far in 2025 after playing at the Mustang Invitational at Western New Mexico last weekend. Aziza Morris is one of four Cowgirls to average more than two kills per set, leading the team with an average of 2.87 per frame. Becca Wiersema is averaging 4.53 digs per set while Abby Carlsen has a team-high 4.17 assists per frame.

Augustana is 3-1 so far this season after competing at the Eagle Classic hosted by Chadron State last weekend. Reagan Jansen (3.81 k/s) and Maya Wente (3.44 k/s) both average more than three kills per set, with Wente also leading the way with 16 blocks (0.89 per set). Kiylah Franke handles the setting duties, averaging 10.5 assists per frame.

Northwestern Oklahoma State is 1-3 after attending the Missouri S&T Tournament last weekend. Three Rangers average more than two kills per set, led by Ivanny Blackwood's 2.58 kills per frame. Mikayla White is averaging a team-high 8.43 assists per set while Jadyn Padilla paces the squad with 3.00 digs per set.

Midwestern State enters the weekend 3-0 on the year after hosting the MSU Invitational last weekend. The Mustangs are led by Trinity Vinzant who is averaging 3.6 kills per frame. Alayna Guerrero tosses up 11.2 assists per frame, while Sadie Christiansen has a team-high 5.1 digs per set.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will make their first road trip of the regular season next weekend (Sept. 19-20) when they travel to the Oklahoma City area for the MIAA/GAC Crossover. The Tigers will play two matches in Edmond on Friday before traveling to Shawnee for two more matches on Saturday.
