Fort Hays State Women's Soccer opens MIAA play this week with a pair of home matches at FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The Tigers play Friday evening (Sept. 26) against Missouri Southern at 7 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon (Sept. 28) matchup versus Pittsburg State, scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Tigers (2-3-0) are coming off back-to-back wins, including a dominant 7-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands. The seven goals were the second-most in a single match in program history. FHSU exploded for five first-half goals, with
Chaley French opening the scoring with a pair in the first 11 minutes.
Sydney Cotter added the next two and
Berit Shores had the last of the half. In the second half,
Saylor Richard joined the goal scorers and then Cotter completed a hat trick with the final goal, the fourth player in program history to score three times in a match.
Hadley Ostrander picked up her second-straight shutout in goal.
Fort Hays State rides a streak of 10 unanswered goals into its first week of conference play, after just two goals over its first three matches.
Missouri Southern comes to Hays with a 2-3-1 overall record. The Lions have scored in all six matches they have played this season and scored at least two goals in each of their wins. Presley Whitmire leads MSSU with seven points for the season with three goals and one assist.
Pittsburg State goes into the weekend 5-1 overall. The Gorillas scored multiple goals in four of their six contests this season, which consisted of opponents from the GLVC and GAC conferences. They play at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday before coming to Hays. Ella Cazzavillan is the team leader in points with seven, producing three goals and one assist.
