The Fort Hays State baseball team continues a seven-game homestand this weekend (Feb. 27-March 1) when the Tigers host Rogers State in a three-game conference series. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. each day inside Larks Park.

The Tigers head into the weekend 4-10 overall and 1-3 in MIAA play, while the Hillcats are 9-3 this season and 2-1 in conference action.

Fort Hays State is batting .298 as a team through 14 games this season, while Rogers State is hitting .245 through 12 contests. The Tigers rank third in the MIAA in both doubles with 34 and home runs with 14.

The Tiger pitching staff has combined for 108 strikeouts across 117.1 innings of work, third-most in the conference. Three FHSU hurlers rank in the top 10 in the league in strikeouts, including
Luke Berry who ranks fourth with 21,
Brandon Chavez who is tied for seventh with 20 and
Brett Jacobs who slots ninth with 19.

Erick Ordonez has yet to commit an error at the hot corner, converting on all 42 chances at third base including 29 assists and 13 putouts. The senior ranks eighth in the conference in assists, while shortstop
Cooper Howell is second in the league with 37 assists.

Derek Woolwine is hitting a team-best .442 with a slugging percentage of .930, ranking second in the conference in slugging and seventh in batting average. The senior designated hitter leads the league with five home runs and ranks eighth with a team-high 17 RBI.

Antonio Avila and
Garretson Cook are tied for seventh in the league with 22 hits each, with Avila ranking second in the MIAA with a team-high eight doubles. Howell has scored a team-high 15 runs on the year, reaching base at a .412 clip.

Rogers State opened conference play with a series victory against Missouri Southern, taking two of three at home last weekend. The Hillcat pitching staff ranks second in the MIAA with an ERA of 3.99 while walking just 2.35 batters per nine innings, fourth-fewest across all NCAA Division II. Tyler Nelson leads the offense with an on-base percentage of .490, batting .375 with a team-best 13 runs scored.

The Hillcats own a 13-2 lead in the series since joining the MIAA in 2020, including a trio of wins to wrap up the 2025 regular season and four-straight wins overall. This is RSU's third trip to Hays, with the Hillcats collecting a 5-1 record at Larks Park since their first trip in 2021. RSU took two of the three games in their last visit in 2023. The Tigers are 2-7 against RSU under head coach
Justin Wichert, including a 1-2 mark at home.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will be home again next weekend (March 6-8) when they host Arkansas-Fort Smith for the first time since 2010.
