SALINA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis improved to 5-2 overall for the 2025-26 season with a 6-1 win at Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday (Mar. 10). FHSU took two of three doubles matches for its first point, then won five of six singles matches to pick up the win.
The Tigers outlasted the Coyotes in tight doubles competition. After the No. 3 team of
Ines Steeman and
Janae Montoya won 6-2, the No. 1 team of
Bethan Gill and
Ines Latorre nabbed the clinching team point with a 7-5 win. The No. 2 team of
Molly Gaddis and
Diana Souza also had a competitive battle, but fell 7-5.
Four of FHSU's five wins in singles play were in straight sets. Gill won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 position, while Gaddis was consistent at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Latorre was also consistent in her scores at No. 3, winning 6-4, 6-4.
Angeliki Efthymiou took the No. 6 match 7-6, 6-2.
The Tigers and Coyotes split a pair of three-set battles in singles. Steeman won her No. 5 match by scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 1-0 (10-6). Montoya fell just short in a marathon battle at No. 4 by scores of 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (14-16). Souza played an exhibition contest and fell 1-6, 3-6.
The Tigers are back home to face CSU Pueblo on Friday (Mar. 13) at 3 p.m.
