Â
The Fort Hays State men's and women's track and field teams have announced a change to this weekend's schedule, with the Tigers now traveling to Kearney, Neb. for the Central Nebraska Challenge on Sunday (March 29). The meet was pushed back 24 hours to avoid cold and windy conditions in the forecast for Saturday.
Â
Throwing events are scheduled to open the day at 10:30 a.m., with action on the track beginning at 12:30 p.m. and jumping events commencing at 1 p.m. Live results will be available
online here. Tickets can be purchased in
advance online here or at the gate with a debit or credit card - no cash will be accepted at the venue.
Â
The Tigers are slated to compete in 87 entries on Sunday, including 47 for the men and 40 for the women. The men's squad will send 34 individuals, with 12 competing in multiple events, while the women's team sends 24 student-athletes, 14 of which will compete in multiple events.
Â
This is the first of three scheduled trips to Kearney during the outdoor season for the Tigers. FHSU will also make the short trip north in three weeks for the Loper Invitational on April 18 before wrapping up the regular season at the UNK Last Chance Meet on May 9.
Â
The Tigers hit 12 national qualifying marks in Kearney during the 2025 outdoor season, including five at the 2025 Central Nebraska Challenge. A pair of school records went down at that meet that opened the 2025 outdoor season, including
Annabeth Baalmann clearing 13-7.5 in the pole vault and
Emma Slade tossing the discus 160-2.
Â
The FHSU distance runners opened the outdoor season last weekend at the Spire Distance Carnival, claiming a pair of podium finishes with
Noah Morenz winning the 3,000m steeplechase (9:24.87) and
Taylor Hoskinson finishing third in the 800m (2:16.90). Both of those marks are the best in the MIAA so far this season.
Â
Looking ahead, the Tigers will next compete on Saturday, April 4 when they head to Pittsburg, Kan. for the David Suenram Gorilla Classic.
