MARYVILLE, Mo. – Fort Hays State dropped a pair of MIAA contests on Friday (Mar. 27) at Northwest Missouri State. The Tigers fell by scores of 8-0 and 3-2, the first contest by run-rule in six innings and the second in 10 innings. FHSU is now 15-18 overall and 3-7 in the MIAA, while NWMSU moved to 24-7 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA.
Game 1: Northwest Missouri State 8, Fort Hays State 0 (6 inn.)
Northwest Missouri State did all of its offensive damage in two innings, scoring four in the third and four in the sixth to win the first contest by run rule. The Bearcats generated six hits in the third inning with a double and five singles. NWMSU generated its first four runs on RBI singles. In the sixth inning, a throwing error with the bases loaded allowed a pair of Bearcat runs to score. One play later, a 2-RBI single ended the game.
Hannah Green led the Tigers with two hits as the team finished with five hits. Omara Love drove in three of NWMSU's on two hits.
Korryn Johnson pitched the first 2.2 innings for FHSU and allowed four runs on six hits.
Claire Kirby pitched the next 2.2 innings and also allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits with two strikeouts.
Jadyn Streigle pitched a complete game shutout for NWMSU and scattered the five hits with four strikeouts. She moved to 11-2 on the season.
Game 2: Northwest Missouri State 3, Fort Hays State (10 inn.)
Fort Hays State scored its only runs of the day in the first inning of the second contest. Northwest Missouri State tied the game with a two-run home run in the second and the game went scoreless for seven-straight innings until the Bearcats won in the 10
th inning.
In the first,
Peyton Shepard put down a sacrifice bunt and a Bearcat error brought in
Hannah Green for the first run. After Shepard swiped a pair of bases,
Lilly Mohr drove her in with an RBI single.
Jaeleigh Darnell had the equalizing two-run homer for the Bearcats in the second. Eventually, Omara Love won the game with a two-out RBI single in the 10
th.
Green led the Tigers in hits again with two, while FHSU had five hits as a team for the second-straight game.
Solana Carpenter pitched a complete game for FHSU, going a season-high 9.2 innings with five hits scattered and three strikeouts. Rien Moore, now 9-1, also threw a complete game for NWMSU and struck out seven.
Fort Hays State hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 31) at 1 p.m. before returning to MIAA play next weekend. FHSU plays its next six games at home.
