Tigers, Lions Wrap Up Baseball Homestand

The Fort Hays State baseball team concludes a seven-game homestand this weekend (March 6-8) when the Tigers host Arkansas-Fort Smith in a three-game conference series at Larks Park. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Tigers head into the weekend 4-13 overall and 1-6 in MIAA play, while the Lions are 1-14 this season and 0-6 in conference action.
 
Admission is free once again this season at Larks Park, while live video will be available on The MIAA Network. Subscriptions cost $15 per game, $35 for a monthly subscription or $140 for an all-access pass. Live stats will be available online here.
 
Fort Hays State is batting .291 as a team, fifth-best in the MIAA, while Arkansas-Fort Smith is hitting .277 through 15 contests. The Tigers are fourth in the conference with 270 total bases, while the pitching staff ranks seventh in the league with 126 strikeouts.
 
Derek Woolwine ranks second in the conference with a slugging percentage of .833. The senior designated hitter is tied for second in the conference with six home runs and ranks seventh with a team-high 19 RBI.
 
Antonio Avila has a team-high 26 base hits this season, sixth-most in the MIAA, while his nine doubles are third-most in the league. Garretson Cook ranks seventh in the conference with 25 base knocks and a team-high .403 batting average. Cooper Howell has scored a team-high 18 runs this season while Avila also leads the team with six stolen bases.
 
CJ Snowden leads the Lions with a .413 batting average, accumulating 11 RBI and three home runs. The UAFS pitching staff holds a team ERA of 14.93, led by Steffan Fak with an ERA of 7.71 and 13 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work.
 
Fort Hays State is 7-1 all-time against UAFS, including a 2-0 record at home. The Lions have made one trip to Hays in series history, with the Tigers taking each end of a doubleheader in 2010. The Tigers swept the series last season in Arkansas, winning 9-3, 2-1 and 13-12.
 
Looking ahead, the Tigers will play their next 11 games on the road starting next weekend (March 13-15) when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western.
