INDIANAPOLIS - Fort Hays State men's wrestling senior
Cason Lindsey is unseeded in the 165-pound bracket going into next week's 2026 NCAA Division II Championships (March 13-14), announced Friday (March 6) by the NCAA.
Â
Lindsey will take on the No. 4 seed Grant MacKay of Gannon in the first round on Friday inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Â
The Derby, Kan. native is 16-5 this season, including a 13-5 mark against Division II wrestlers. He reached the podium at both tournaments in which he competed, finishing runner-up at the Roger Denker Open before securing his trip to nationals with a third-place finish at the Super Region VI Championships.
Â
Nine of Lindsey's 16 victories have been bonus-point wins, including three pins, two technical falls and four major decisions. He led the team with seven wins via decision this season.
Â
All five of Lindsey's losses have been narrow decisions against wrestlers that are seeded in the national bracket, including two losses to the No. 5 seed Trenton Munoz of Nebraska-Kearney, one loss to the No. 6 seed Ivan Smith, Jr. of New Mexico Highlands and two losses to the No. 7 seed Gage Bernall of Central Missouri.
Â
The senior battled back from season-ending injuries each of the last two seasons to reach this year's national championship, improving his career record to 57-33. He won 21 matches as a true freshman in 2021-22, placing fifth at the Super Region VI Championships, and won 17 matches as a redshirt the following season before wrestling just three times each in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Â
Lindsey's road includes a potential third matchup in four weeks against UNK's Munoz in the quarterfinals before a potential date with top-seeded Nolan Gessler of Tiffin.
Â
Session one, including preliminary bouts and the first round, will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. Session two, including the first two rounds of consolation and the championship quarterfinals, will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Â
All wrestlers that advance to Saturday will earn a spot on the All-America podium, with session three starting at 10 a.m. to include the championship semifinals and the remainder of the consolation bracket. Championship finals will wrap up the event in session four starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
