TOPEKA , Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell by a score of 7-0 to No. 18 ranked Washburn on Wednesday. The Tigers are now 8-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA. Washburn improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA.
The Ichabods won all doubles and singles contests, although
Bethan Gill gave No. 23 ranked Renske Ubachs a competitive match at No. 1 singles. Gill put pressure on Ubachs in the second set after a 6-2 result in the first set. Ubachs escaped with a 7-5 win in the second set to avoid a tiebreaking set.
The closest doubles contest was at the No. 2 position as
Ines Latorre and
Molly Gaddis fell 6-3. In singles play, Latorre took five games in her match at the No. 3 position, on the short end of a 6-3, 6-2 result. Gaddis won four games in her singles match as her opponent won 6-1, 6-3.
Ines Steeman at the No. 5 position fell 6-0, 6-2, while
Janae Montoya (No. 4) and
Diana Souza (No. 6) each fell 6-1, 6-0.
The Tigers continue their three-day road swing in MIAA play at Northeastern State on Thursday (Apr. 9).
