RiverHawks Turn Away Tigers in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell 7-0 to Northeastern State in MIAA play on Thursday (Apr. 9). Ines Latorre nearly secured a team point by forcing a third set, but ultimately falling by two in a thrilling tiebreaker set. FHSU moved to 8-6 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA, while Northeastern State went to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA.
 
The RiverHawks claimed all matches contested for the day. In doubles, the No. 3 team of Janae Montoya and Ines Steeman were competitive, falling by a close score of 7-5. The RiverHawks' No. 1 team of Daisy Barrow and Renata Morales are ranked No. 26 nationally and did not yield a point, while NSU took the No. 2 match 6-2.
 
Latorre gave Sofia Kotliarova all she could handle at No. 3 singles. Kotliarova won the first set 6-4, but Latorre dominated the second set 6-0. The match came down to a win-by-two situation in the tiebreaking third set as Kotliarova escaped with a 13-11 win.
 
At No. 1 singles, Bethan Gill won seven games within her match, on the short end of a 6-4, 6-3 result. Molly Gaddis (No. 2), Ines Steeman (No. 5), and Diana Souza (No. 6) all won three games within their matches, while Janae Montoya (No. 4) won one game within her match.
 
The Tigers complete their road trip for the week in MIAA play at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday (Apr. 10) with a match at 10 a.m.
