Lopers Knock Off Tigers Twice in 2026 Finale

KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State fell to Nebraska-Kearney twice on Saturday (May 2) at Dryden Park. The Lopers took the pair of MIAA contests by scores of 5-2 and 4-2. Both teams completed their 2026 seasons. FHSU ended the year at 19-30 overall, 5-19 in the MIAA, and UNK wrapped at 16-37 overall, also 5-19 in the MIAA.

Nebraska-Kearney 5, Fort Hays State 2
The Lopers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first contest and led by that score through four innings before breaking the game open in the fifth with four more runs. The Tigers could not find a way to score until the seventh inning, when they plated their only two runs of the game.

The top of the Tiger order provided the majority of the offense as Hannah Green, Peyton Shepard, and Audrey Gillespie all wen 3-for-4 in the game, accounting for nine of the team's 10 hits. Gillespie drove in Shepard from first base on a double to get the Tigers on the board in the seventh. Abbey Duarte followed with a sacrifice fly RBI.

The Lopers scored their first run on a two-out RBI single in the first. Three straight hits to open the fifth gave UNK its second run. Back-to-back doubles scored three more for the Lopers.

Zakayia Fredrick threw a complete game for UNK, striking out seven batters. She walked two. Solana Carpenter pitched the first 5.0 innings for FHSU, striking out five, while allowing all five runs. Korryn Johnson pitched one inning of relief and struck out one.

Nebraska-Kearney 4, Fort Hays State 2
Fort Hays State initially held a 1-0 lead after a half inning, but saw Nebraska-Kearney tie the game in the second and take the lead with a pair of runs in the third. FHSU countered with one in the sixth to get back within one, but UNK responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning to produce the final score of 4-2.

An Abbey Duarte RBI single brought in Hannah Green in the first inning for FHSU's first run. In the sixth, an error allowed the Tigers to plate their second run. Lilly Mohr led the Tigers with two hits in the game, while five other Tigers had one hit.

Chloe Odle threw a complete game for the Lopers with four strikeouts. Myah Wolfe of FHSU also threw a complete game, with only two of her four runs allowed being earned. She struck out one in 6.0 innings of work.
