Women's Soccer Heads West to Battle Roadrunners, Cougars

The Fort Hays State women's soccer team continues its season-opening seven-match road trip this weekend (Sept. 11-13) with two matches in the Denver area. The trip to Colorado opens Friday at 4 p.m. (3 p.m. MT) against MSU Denver (0-1-3) in Denver. The Tigers will then travel to Lakewood on Sunday to face Colorado Christian (1-2-1) at noon (11 a.m. MT).

FHSU is now 2-1 on the year after a 2-0 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State Sunday. Ava Wariner opened the scoring with a second-half goal before Maddy Spiers netted a of goal ten minutes later to pad the lead. Katie Stoskopf earned her first shutout of the season with four saves.
 
The Tigers have now scored eight goals in three matches, all by eight different players. The defense has conceded just five goals in that time. FHSU has earned 10 corner kicks on the year while allowing just four to its opponents to date.

MSU Denver is winless so far this season, coming off a pair of draws last weekend. The Roadrunners ended 1-1 against Central Washington and 0-0 with Saint Martin's. This is the first-ever meeting between FHSU and MSU Denver.
 
Colorado Christian is coming off a 1-1 trip to the islands of Hawaii, where the Cougars defeated Chaminade 1-0 and lost to Hawaii-Hilo 1-0. The Tigers and Cougars have played twice in the past, with CCU holding a 1-0-1 lead in the series. Every matchup has been played in Lakewood.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will open conference play on the road next week (Sept. 18-20) at Rogers State and Emporia State before finally making their home debut on Friday, September 25 against Central Missouri.
