Cory Bonner is entering his year as an assistant baseball coach at Fort Hays State University in 2023-24.
Previous coaching stops for the Dripping Springs, Texas native include Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Trinidad State College.
Bonner joined the Tiger coaching staff after spending the 2022 season on current FHSU head coach Justin Wichert's staff at Trinidad State in Trinidad, Colo. The Trojans turned in a record of 44-17 in Bonner’s lone season in the dugout, winning the Empire Conference Southern Division. Bonner assisted with hitting and infielders, helping the Trojans to a team batting average of .388. His players earned regional freshman of the year, honorable mention All-American and regional gold glove honors.
Before joining coach Wichert’s staff at TSC, Bonner coached for five seasons across two separate stints at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Okla. He began his coaching career at NEO in 2016 before returning for the 2020-21 campaigns. His team in 2016 finished the year with an NJCAA-high batting average of .389.
Between his stints at NEO, Bonner spent one season as a pitching coach at Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2019.
A 2014 graduate of Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., Bonner played four years collegiately as a right-handed pitcher. He spent two years at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before transferring to Lewis. Bonner played for Wichert at NEO, helping the Golden Norsemen win the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference title in 2012. He then helped the Flyers to a GLVC east title and a trip to regionals in 2013. He was an all-conference performer in his senior season at Dripping Springs HS in 2010.
